High Output Alternators are sometimes required to run vehicles with modified electrical systems.
The original factory alternator on any vehicle is intended to provide power for the electrical system as it came from the factory. When electrical accessories are added the original alternator may not be able to provide enough power to cover the extra load on the system. Many modern vehicles have either a standard (lower output) or optional (higher output) alternator that can come on the vehicle. If your vehicle is equipped with the standard alternator we can supply the optional alternator as a drop in replacement. If your vehicle came equipped with the optional alternator from the factory we can upgrade that alternator by installing specially designed components available from our suppliers.
Combined with the proper battery capacity our high output alternators provide the power to run all your custom car toys.
Chrome or Powder Coated Alternators dress up any engine compartment and add a little pop. Chrome Kits, into which we can install your components, are available for some GM and Ford alternators popular on hot rods. The most popular chrome hot rod alternator in history has to be the Delco 10SI which is the middle picture at the top of this page. We offer this unit new in 63 amp and 100 amp ratings both of which are available in the standard 3 wire configuration or in a 1 wire self exciting version. If your alternator is not readily available in chrome, powder coating is another way to dress things up. We can disassemble your alternator so that you can take the cases to a powder coating facility and have the cases powder coated in the color of your choice and then we can reassemble and test the alternator for proper fit and function.
We do not do the powder coating in house.

Services For the High Output - High Amp Alternator
Upgrade Alternator:
Components are installed in the alternator to increase output.
- High-Output windings are installed.
- Heavy Duty Rectifier Assemblies (diodes) are installed.
- Optionally: The alternator can be rebuilt at this time if requested.
- Optionally: There may be a another alternator offered by the car manufacturer for your vehicle that is a higher output unit.
Chrome or Powder Coat Alternator:
The alternator is finished in chrome or powder coat.
- New chrome alternator kits for popular GM and Ford alternators.
- New chrome Delco 10SI style complete alternators in 63amp, 100amp in either 3 wire or 1wire.
- We disassemble your alternator so the frames can be powder coated and then reassemble and test for fit and function.
Rebuild Alternator:
The original high output alternator is put through a remanufacturing process.
- Complete disassembly of the unit.
- All components are cleaned and inspected.
- Service components are replaced with 100% new parts. (brushes, bearings, etc.)
- Rotor slip rings are resurfaced and polished on lathe.
- Stator and Rotor windings are tested electrically for shorts and grounds.
- Voltage Regulators and Rectifiers are 100% tested.
- All Alternators are 100% bench tested under load to meet high output standards
Repair Alternator:
Only the minimum number of components are replaced to make the alternator work.
- The alternator is benched tested to determine which components have failed.
- Only the failed component or components are replaced.
- The alternator is bench tested to meet output standards.
- No other repairs are made...no cleaning, no new bearings, no new brushes.
- No warranty is offered.
New Alternator:
A new high-output alternator is supplied as a replacement.
- New - Aftermarket: 100% new units manufactured by companies other than the Original Equipment Manufacturer. Most but not all of these are made in China or Taiwan. Generally they are less expensive than new OEM units.
- New - OEM: (Original Equipment Manufacturer): 100% new unit manufactured by the Original Supplier. Generally are the most expensive and offer the highest level of quality.
